Rolling Stone Magazine - Spoek Mathambo

I have been waiting to release this for months. My first cover of Rolling Stone magazine South Africa featuring Spoek Mathambo. The shoot was a collaboration between myself and The Smarteez. The Smarteez styled the shoot and we shot on location in Soweto.

' Songwriter? Surely in an era where God is a DJ once again (take a bow, Guetta) and the producer his son (stand up Skrillex), "songwriter" might seem like an old-fashioned, even anachronistic title to aspire to? Not for a sonic architect and rhythm scientist like Spoek, for whom songwriting remains the Holy Ghost, the key to resurrecting the poetics of the archive. A space where the sound, rhythm and temporality of digital "storage space" can be reworked until it yields dimensions of intimacy, beauty, even reality. For Spoek travelling the spaceways isnʼt some nostalgic impulse. Itʼs a presence. ' Miles Keylock - Rolling Stone Magazine Editor

US Memories. Albuquerque Hot Rods.

Finally after a year of deliberately avoiding my images from my 45 day trip across the USA and subsequent trip up the west coast 101 highway to San Francisco, I have decided to start editing and posting some of the shots I took on the epic journey.

Took the image above while in Alburquerque staying in a Bed Bug infested hotel called the 'Blue Hotel', it was downtown in a supposed bad part of town. If it wasn't for the constant itching while trying to sleep I really liked it.

I was staying close to the main street downtown on a Sunday night, the night where all the folks from the 'Ghetto's' get together and show off their modified muscle cars, this American tradition which was mostly followed by folk from South of the border is called cruising.

Black Coffee SS & AW 2012

Last week after a month of planning and a few days before the final press kit was meant to go to print as well as a week before the Fashion Show I shot Black Coffee's new catalogue and press material, we managed to pull off 40 shots in one day a new feat for me. With a mixture of Zylight LED lighting and flash we managed to achieve the desired results.

Please read more about the campaign on the Team Uncool Fashion Blog.
