L'Officiel (Paris) features the Smarteez

Another post that I have been anticipating to release is that some of the more recent Smarteez work has been published in the french fashion magazine L'Officiel! I got to meet writer Alexandra Senes in Johannesburg late last year and she showed some interest, much to my suprise she decided to a fill spread on the Smarteez using my images. If your in France, get a copy.

The Smarteez - Red Bulletin Magazine

A few months ago I had the pleasure to re-visit one of my favorite subjects, The Smarteez Fashion collective from Soweto, Johannesburg. Red Bulletin Magazine, Red Bulls monthly publication commissioned me to go and shoot a new piece on where they have come from and where they are going. It was an amazing experience and it is interesting to see the new challenges for the prolific fashion designers.

I was accompanied by Tudor Caradoc-Davies who wrote a in depth story into the guys, aptly titled Rainbow Warriors. I have attached it to this blog post for your perusal.

The Smarteez Dazed Digital Video.

Shot this video earlier this year with the Editor of Dazed & Confused, Rod Stanley in South Africa. The Smarteez are a subject I have been obsessed with for the last couple of years and owe a lot to them.

The video has slightly fucked up sound but its really cool and worth the watch. (Damn my Auto Overides on the 5dmk2).

Check out the rest of the story on the Dazed Digital website, http://www.dazeddigital.com/Fashion/article/7594/1/South_Africa_Special_The_Smarteez

Dazed & Confused Magazine: South Africa

About a month and half ago I flew from my comfortable situation here in Treviso italy back to the madness of my home city, Johannesburg to shoot a story on my good friends the inspirational Smarteez.

This time we went in featuring them more as designers and street savy revolutionaries as apposed to the normal view point that they are just South African hispters.

It was a pleasure to work with Rod Stanley at Dazed and to be part of this amazing feature. A couple of my other shots where featured through out the South African section of the magazine too.

Check out the next issue for a narrative through images which I have just completed with well known photographer Stefan Ruiz.

Please check out Dazed Digital for the web to see the story. To see the whole feature on South Africa plus the other shots of mine that where in the issue please, buy the magazine in a store now!

Till next time,

Benetton MyTime Casting, Johannesburg

I recently travelled back to Johannesburg to shoot the Benetton MyTime street casting. Everything went sportingly well and here is a taste of the madness which ensued.

I have also included a video which I made during the shoot and casting process edited here at Fabrica.

Enjoy

Young Black & Gifted - (Channel 0 Campaign)

I recently shot the Channel O 'Young, Gifted & Black ' campaign for Ogilvy Johannesburg. I have uploaded some of the images to the blog. The campaign started with a remake of a classic song which lead to a celebrity driven music video and later led onto a t-shirt campaign. They are currently running a competition where you can design a t-shirt of your own and enter it in to be part of the campaign.

We took the Smarteez who I shot last year and we dressed them into the shirts and shot them around Johannesburg. We shot them over one evening and one day in locations such as Joubert Park, Braamfontein and Kliptown Soweto.

Please visit the Channel O 'Young, Gifted & Black' to see some more of the campaign and take part in the t-shirt competition. Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Channel-O-YGB/79935513850?ref=ts.

Enjoy and please let me know what you think of the shots.
